The Mechanics of Global Time
To provide accurate local times for thousands of cities, our system relies on a complex infrastructure of standardized data. The foundation of this system is Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). Unlike GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), which is a time zone, UTC is a time standard. It does not observe Daylight Saving Time and serves as the absolute baseline from which all other time zones are calculated.
Every location on Earth has a specific "UTC offset." For example, during standard time, New York is UTC-5 (five hours behind UTC), while Tokyo is UTC+9 (nine hours ahead). Our application calculates the current UTC time on your device and applies the appropriate offset for the city you are searching for.
The Challenge of Daylight Saving Time (DST)
Calculating time becomes significantly more difficult when factoring in Daylight Saving Time. DST rules are not universal; they are determined by local governments and change frequently. While the US might shift its clocks on the second Sunday in March, the European Union shifts on the last Sunday in March. Furthermore, countries in the Southern Hemisphere shift their clocks in the opposite direction during different months.
To handle this, we utilize the IANA Time Zone Database (also known as the Olson database). This is the authoritative, global standard used by major operating systems (macOS, Windows, Linux) and web browsers. It contains historical data, current rules, and future scheduled changes for every time zone on Earth. When you search for a city, our system queries this database to determine not just the base UTC offset, but whether DST is currently active for that specific location on this exact date.
Understanding Currency Conversion
Our currency converter provides real-time estimates of exchange rates between over 150 global currencies. An exchange rate simply represents the value of one currency relative to another. Because the foreign exchange (Forex) market operates globally 24/5, these rates fluctuate continuously based on economic data, geopolitical events, and market speculation.
Mid-Market Rates vs. Retail Rates
The rates displayed on World Clock Plus+ are mid-market rates. This is the midpoint between the "buy" and "sell" prices from global currency markets. It is the truest, most accurate reflection of a currency's value at any given moment.
However, it is crucial to understand that you will rarely receive the exact mid-market rate when exchanging money at a bank, using a credit card abroad, or using a currency exchange kiosk. Financial institutions apply a "spread" (a markup) and often charge transaction fees. Therefore, our tool should be used for informational and estimation purposes, not as a guarantee of the exact amount you will receive in a retail transaction.
Data Sources and Precision
We source our exchange rate data from enterprise-grade financial APIs that aggregate data from multiple global banks and brokerages. This data is refreshed frequently (typically every few hours) to ensure high accuracy. While the UI displays results rounded to two decimal places for readability, the underlying calculations use high-precision floating-point math to prevent rounding errors on large conversions.

Limitations & Notes
Please note that while all conversions are based on standard international definitions, there are precision limits in our calculations. To ensure the tool remains practical and easy to read, results are subject to rounding for everyday use. Always double-check critical measurements if you require absolute scientific or medical accuracy.
Step-by-Step Usage Guide

Search and Save Locations
Navigate to the Tools page and use the search bar to find a city. Once the location details appear, click "Save to Favorites." This will pin the city to your Favorites Panel for quick access later.

Analyze Work Hours
With a city selected, look at the Work Hours Comparison. The top row represents your local time, and the bottom row represents the searched city's time. Look for a green "Within Work Hours" badge on both rows — this indicates overlapping standard business hours (9 AM to 6 PM), making it the ideal time to schedule a meeting.

Convert Currencies
Visit the Currency Converter tool. Select your base currency from the first dropdown and your target currency from the second. Enter the amount you wish to convert. The result updates instantly. You can use the swap icon between the dropdowns to quickly reverse the conversion.

Sync Across Devices
To ensure you never lose your saved cities or currency pairs, click "Login" in the top navigation. Enter your email address to receive a secure, one-time password. Once authenticated, your preferences are securely saved to your account and will automatically load on any device you log into.
